Standing on the shoulders of giants

Off I go!!.. Again! Lol

The running joke my friends have that I am always at a course or seminar is not that far from the truth. This time around, I’m headed to Eugene, OR for two weeks of one on one mentoring. Last year, I was accepted into the NAIOMT (North American Institute of Manual Therapists) fellowship program.

What is a fellowship program?

A NAIOMT member described it best as the “Jedi training version of physical therapy”. A Fellow is the highest/terminal credential in manual therapy, within the scope of physical therapy. It’s a three year program that includes over one hundred hours of one on one mentoring. In my opinion, it’s the oldest form of learning. It’s basically an apprenticeship. In today’s modern age how amazing is it that there are still programs where we can learn from the giants in our respective professions!? I’m pumped! And terrified.

One of my mentors describes continuing education as “courageous. Its standing in front of your peers and saying ‘this is what I know’, and more importantly, ‘this is what I DON’T know’”.

So off I go to stand on the shoulders of giants. To look ahead at possibilities I may not fully understand, yet. To embrace what I do not know and to change for the better.
