Another great article on how we can be fooled by eyeing functional tasks in the clinic. Sigward takes a look at how the “persistence of underloading” during ACLR rehab can lead to smaller extensor moments on the surgical limb at 3 and 5 months post op.

Just watching someone squat can be deceiving. The difference in knee flexion between limbs was 3 degrees. Way too small to see with the naked eye! And the compensation was also interlimb so weight was shifted away from the surgical limb. We need a more objective approach. Perhaps scales under each limb?? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

At 3 and 5 months post op, these deficits are seen at a time when many PTs are progressing patients back to sport… woa.
