I was born and raised in Michigan. I moved to NYC 11 years ago after meeting my husband and definitely consider it my home. My friends and family love to visit but say they couldn’t live here. I can’t imagine living anywhere else.
I always knew I wanted to work in medicine. I was pre-med my freshman year in college when I sustained an athletic injury. I went to physical therapy for rehab and discovered it as a profession. I thought it was a perfect fit for me combining the two things I loved the most, sports and medicine.
I received my Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Physical Therapy from Wayne State University, Detroit Michigan. I went on to earn a graduate certificate in Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy and a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Oakland University, Rochester Hills, Michigan.
During my residency in manual therapy I had the honor and privilege to study under Olaf Evjenth of the Kaltenborn-Evjenth system. Working alongside and learning from one of the masters of modern manual therapy was definitely a highlight.
As a multi-sport athlete myself, I have personal experience with swimming, biking and running injuries and enjoy working with them, however, I truly enjoy the variety of diagnoses we get to see in an outpatient orthopedic setting, not just athletes.
Interior Designer. I never thought I was creative until my husband and I began decorating our home together. I absolutely love the process.
I’m a triathlete, but my strongest discipline is swimming. My husband and I met at an open-water swim camp and it’s still something we do together today. Many of our vacations include travel to exciting open-water swim destinations.
I think we are seeing a shift from reactive disease management to disease & injury prevention. It’s an exciting time for Physical Therapists because It allows us the opportunity to be involved along the entire treatment spectrum. We can help people stay injury free by designing a solid Prehab program, we are there to guide people back to their activities of daily living and sports after an injury, and once you are able to return to your desired activity, we can help you stay there.
I’ve seen acupuncture and massage be a successful adjunct to PT services, especially in cases like post-mastectomy, lymphodema, pain management, neurogenic headaches, etc. If it helps the patient in any way then I’m all for it.
I grew up in New Jersey near the Jersey shore, but I consider myself a New Yorker having lived in Brooklyn and the Upper West Side for over 10 years.
My freshman year of college I became obsessed with weightlifting. While doing a shoulder press I felt that pain that makes you say “that was not good, I think I really hurt myself”. I was diagnosed with a partial rotator cuff tear and was sent to physical therapy. I saw just how incredible PT can be and in less than 3 months I was back in the gym. I became hooked from that moment.
I attended Hofstra University (Go Pride!) for my undergraduate where I majored in Biology. From there I chose Long Island University – Brooklyn for my Doctorate of Physical Therapy.
I have had the pleasure to learn from some amazing people and have formed lifelong friendships with Professors, peers and clinical instructors. I was fortunate to begin my career working with many minor league baseball players and was able to see them progress to be on major league rosters including the Yankees and Mets.
I truly enjoy learning about people and their lifestyle, recreational activities and goals. I find that once you know a person the treatments become personalized and the goals that we achieve are more meaningful. That being said I always love treating chronic low back pain, runners, weekend warriors and those that have pain or limitations in their daily activities such as sitting at work or going down the subway steps.
I think I would like to be an archeologist. You get to travel to amazing places and make historic discoveries.
Running, weight lifting, yoga and my favorite would be playing sports (baseball, soccer, basketball)
The healthcare system can be extremely complicated for all of us and unfortunately far from perfect. All I can do is prepare myself everyday to give each patient the highest quality care and treatments.
I believe meditation is a very important practice. I use meditation as a daily way to check in with my body. Sessions can last 5 mins or 20 mins, whatever I can fit into my busy schedule.
